![]() ![]() But Nora’s voice changes over the course of the novel, which is one of the things that makes this book so good. She’s a strange mix between jaded, sarcastic, funny and reassuring, like she can handle anything. This novel turned out to be much different than what I thought it would be when I first started reading it. Nora thinks back to cons she and her mother pulled as well as different identities her mom forced her to take on, and the novel goes back and forth between her past and the present. ![]() While she works on a plan to get them all safely out of the bank, her sister, Lee, is working with the Sheriff’s office to get everybody out, too. Nora, who is the daughter of a con artist, tries to find a way to get everybody out. Almost immediately after arriving there, two robbers, Gray Cap and Red Cap, hold up the bank. ![]() Nora meets up with her girlfriend, Iris, and ex-boyfriend/best friend, Wes, at the bank where they intend to deposit money they raised for an animal shelter. But it’s painful to read parts of it, so even though it flows smoothly and is genuinely suspenseful, I had to put it down several times. There is never a part when the novel slows down. The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe is good. ![]() Note: This novel can be triggering for some readers.
